Rev. Steven L. Anderson is a Lutheran pastor emeritus, educator, and author whose work asks a practical question: how can Christian teaching be both faithful and genuinely engaging?
A teacher at heart
Steven earned a B.A. in Education from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois—now Concordia University Chicago—and a Master of Divinity in Exegetical Theology from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1985.
After years in congregational ministry and Lutheran education, he served Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Mound, Iowa, before taking emeritus status. His preaching archive grew from recordings made for family and expanded into sermons, weekly exegetical notes, a book, workshops, and individual teaching.

Why You Are Salt
Focus on the Gospel began with a conviction that better preaching serves both the person in the pulpit and the people in the pew. You Are Salt carries that conviction into a wider media platform—podcasts, educational presentations, video, and writing for thoughtful Christians and communicators.
“We have a very good story—the story of God and man—and it is non-fiction.”
Steven’s interests bring together Scripture, ancient rhetoric, narrative nonfiction, education, and public communication. The result is direct, story-shaped teaching intended to be understood rather than merely admired.
